Four J&K Cops Shot Dead in Encounter With Terrorists in Shopian

The terrorists shot the four policemen at Bonagam in Shopian, a police officer said.

Four policemen were killed on Wednesday, 29 August, in a terrorist attack in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police told PTI.

The incident took place at Bonagam in Shopian, a police officer said.

While two policemen died on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries in a hospital.

A team has been formed to investigate the incident, police officer told PTI.

The deceased were identified as Constable Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, Constable Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Constable Mohammad Iqbal Mir, and Special Police Officers Adil Manzoor Bhat.

Following the death of the four policemen, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid and Inspector General of Kashmir police, SP Pani paid tribute to the deceased during the wreath laying ceremony.

Two Militants Killed in Anantnag

In a separate incident on the same day, two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including the outfit’s commander Altaf Ahmed Dar, alias Altaf Kachroo, were killed in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.

A spokesman of the police said based on a specific intelligence, Jammu and Kashmir police along with other security forces launched the search operation at Muniward village of Khanabal area in the district at the crack of dawn.

There was specific information on which the operation was launched. Army, Central Reserve Police Force & Jammuand Kashmir police coordinated the operation. Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were eliminated. Forces have done it without any collateral damage.
