For the second year in a row, IIT-Bombay has topped a list of Indian institutes. Ranked the best university in India, IIT-Bombay has secured the 152nd rank in the QS World University Rankings for 2020.

Two other universities have also managed to secure their position in the top 200. These are: IIT Delhi at the 182nd position and the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru at the 184th position.

23 Indian institutions have managed to secure their position in the top 1,000 positions in the QS World University Rankings for 2020. However, it is to be noted that most of these 23 institutes are government-funded universities.

The top private university in India is the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. It falls within the 701-750 ranking band – whereas with its rank in the 751-800 band, the O.P. Jindal Global University, founded in 2009, is the only new entrant in the list this year.

Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Human Resource Development Minister, took to Twitter to congratulate IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IISC (Bengaluru) for securing their position in the top 200 ranks of the QS World University Rankings for 2020.

“It is a matter of great pride that IIT Mumbai, Delhi, and IISc, Bangalore, have been included in the top 200 institutions of the prestigious QS global rankings,” read the tweet.

In terms of citations per faculty, Indian science and technology institutions funded by the government have scored high. IISc, Bengaluru, has achieved a perfect 100 in this indicator.

However, indicators such as teacher-student ratio, international faculty and student populations pushed the private institutions to the top of the list.
