For today’s big story, we talked about the key takeaways from the National Sample Survey Office's (NSSO's) periodic labour force survey (PLFS), reported by Business Standard. This report says India’s unemployment in 2017-18 was at a high of 6.1 percent. In fact, between 2011-12 and 2017-18, unemployment has risen by three times.

Even before its release, this was a controversial report. Two of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) members, including the acting chairman, resigned this week alleging that the government withheld the release of this report.  The Quint tried to get in touch with the former acting chairman of NSC, PC Mohanan, but he was unwilling to respond further on the matter.

So, what is it that the government doesn't want you to know? What does the report say? Tune in to The Big Story for more!
