Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed's son Hafiz Talha Saeed and son-in-law Hafiz Khalid Waleed will be participating in the 25 July general elections from the Punjab province in Pakistan, news agency ANI reported.
Pakistan's national daily, Dawn, reported that country's Election Commission had accepted Talha and Waleed's nomination to contest from Sargodha-IV and Lahore-XI seats respectively.
A little-known Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek party, registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan, has fielded 265 candidates, including the Talha and Waleed, Dawn reported.
Even though the ATT was formed in 2003, it was registered in 2013.
Jamat-Ud-Dawa, the political arm of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was banned in 2015, years after it was recognised by the United Nations as an LeT front.
The organisation had floated another political party Milli Muslim League (MML) in 2017, but the Pakistan Election Commission rejected its application seeking recognition on interior ministry's recommendation that the “MML has links with banned militant outfits”.
Citing media reports, ANI said that the AAT will contest elections from Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on provincial and national Assembly seats.
