Addressing a press conference after the Congress party came out leading in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan and in a neck-and-neck battle with the BJP in MP in the Assembly elections, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “Narendra Modi taught me the lesson – what not to do."

“PM Modi was handed a huge opportunity. It is a sad thing that he refused to listen to the heartbeat of the country. The arrogance came in.”

He further expressed willingness to work with the Opposition in areas that require attention, such as farmer welfare and unemployment.

Congratulating the parties that won in Mizoram and Telangana, Gandhi said the Congress would have “preferred a better result in Telangana, but so be it.”

Speaking about PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi said there is a feeling among people that PM Modi has not delivered on his promises.

“Serious questions are being asked about the future of our youngsters. Modi’s promise of rozgar (employment) hasn’t been fulfilled. There’s an inability among youth and farmers as to imagine how they’ll survive.”

He also pointed out that “with a resurgent Congress party, it’s going to become very difficult for Mr Narendra Modi to win in 2019.”

Discussing 2014, Gandhi said PM Modi was elected in 2014 on the basis of his promises of employment, weeding out corruption and farmers.

“Now people think PM Modi himself is corrupt,” said Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi also said “the absolute best thing” for him were the 2014 polls, for he learned “a lot from that election”.

“Most importantly, I have learnt humility. This is a great country and the most important thing about this country is what the people of this country feel about you. “

Rahul Gandhi said that in 2019, they will defeat the BJP and its ideologies. However, he pointed that the Congress doesn’t want to “get rid” someone from India.

Hum Bharat ko kisi se mukt nahi karna chahte,” he said.
