Addressing a rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra on Thursday, 7 March, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that any paramilitary personnel killed in the line of duty should be given the status of a ‘martyr.’

"It is sad when someone from paramilitaries is martyred. They don't get the status of a martyr. It shouldn't be that only CRPF or BSF aren't given the status. When our government comes, if a personnel is martyred in line of duty – he'll get status of a martyr,” Gandhi said at the rally.

He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of politicising the Pulwama terror attack, reported ANI.

“When Pulwama happened and action was ongoing with Pakistan, I held a press conference and said that Congress and all its leaders, workers are standing with the IAF and the government. We made it clear we’ll not politicise it but it’s sad that when the Opposition was standing with the government, the prime minister was politicising it,” Gandhi asserted.

Does Rahul Need a Certificate from Pakistan, Asks BJP

Accusing the Congress president of speaking "blatant lies" on the Rafale issue, the BJP said said that Gandhi neither believes the Indian Air Force nor the Supreme Court verdict.

Soon after Gandhi demanded a probe against Prime Minister Modi in the Rafale deal, the BJP hit back, with Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad alleging that the Congress president believes Pakistan more than Indian forces and its leaders. He also asked Gandhi if he needed a certificate from Pakistan about the fighter aircraft, reported PTI.

“I totally condemn blatant lies of Rahul Gandhi. He does not believe the Indian Air Force, does not trust the Supreme Court verdict that clearly said there is no commercial impropriety in the (Rafale) procurement process. He does not believe the CAG,” Prasad said.

"Will Rahul Gandhi need a certificate about Rafale from Pakistan. In that we cannot help. Of late he believes Pakistan more than Indian forces and its leaders," the senior BJP leader added.
