Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi discussed three issues, including the farmers' protest and the reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor, during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Friday, 1 October, ANI reported.

"Although it was a courtesy call, I've shared three issues with him. Firstly, procurement season usually begins in Punjab on 1st October but this year Centre has decided to begin it on 10th Oct. I've requested him to start procurement now," he was quoted as saying by ANI.

"I asked the PM to resolve the matter of farmers' protest and resume dialogue with the protesting farmers. I demanded that the three laws should be withdrawn," he added.

"I also requested to the PM that the Kartarpur Corridor, which was closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, should be reopened at the earliest," he added.

Channi had reached Kapurthala House in Delhi at around 3:30 pm.

This was Channi's first meeting with Modi since he took oath as the chief minister of Punjab.

Earlier, The Tribune had reported, quoting sources, that Channi will also meet senior Congress leaders during his visit to Delhi as the party attempts to handle the ongoing crisis in its Punjab unit.

Meeting With Navjot Singh Sidhu

Channi's visit to Delhi came a day after he met Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned as Punjab Congress chief on Tuesday.

The meeting reportedly went on for three hours, following which, as per NDTV, the two leaders emerged smiling. Sidhu, as well as Channi and All India Congress Committee observer Harish Chaudhary, were also spotted by the press leaving the Punjab Bhavan premises.
