Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 7 February launched the ‘Asom Mela’ programme in Sonitpur district of poll-bound Assam.

The PM’s visit comes almost two weeks after his visit to Kolkata on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and Assam’s Sivasagar district, where he distributed land allotment certificates to over one lakh indigenous people in the state.

Addressing a gathering at Sonitpur, PM Modi said that Assam is playing a leading role in the development of the Northeast. “After the historic Bodo Agreement, the Bodo Territorial Council elections have written a new chapter of trust and development in the region,” he added.
