Parliament Monsoon Session 2022 Live Updates: On the eighth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha convened at 11 am on Wednesday, 27 July.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, for the remaining part of the current week for shouting slogans, tearing papers and throwing them toward the chair on Tuesday.

Both the Houses witnessed repeated adjournments, following uproar by Opposition MPs over the suspension of a total of 24 MPs (four from Lok Sabha and 20 from Rajya Sabha), among other issues such as price rise, Goods and Services Tax hikes, and inflation.

Since the Parliament session began last week, both Houses have suffered frequent adjournments as the Opposition protests against inflation, hike in GST prices, and suspension of Congress MPs, demanding a discussion on price hike in the Houses.

Lok Sabha Passes National Anti-Doping Bill 2021

Lok Sabha on Wednesday, passed the National Anti-Doping Bill, 2021, to provide a "statutory framework for the operation of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) and other dope testing laboratories, and for the creation of a National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports to strengthen anti-doping activities in sport."

The bill seeks to give NADA powers of "investigation, levying sanctions for anti-doping rule violations, the disciplinary procedures to be adopted and the powers of inspection, sample collection and sharing and free flow of information." It also provides for the establishment of the NDTL and other dope testing laboratories.

While speaking on the bill, Anurag Thakur said, "Countries like US, China, Australia, Korea and Japan had already adopted Anti Doping Law. Now India will be among these countries to have its own anti-doping law and testing laboratories as well."

He added, "Currently, we are testing 6,000 samples in a year, when we host big sporting events in our country, we will have to test 10,000 samples in a month. So we need to increase the number of testing laboratories as well."
