Karnataka CM Oath Taking Ceremony Live News Updates: Congress leader Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar have taken oath the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka respectively.

The new Karnataka government has stated that the five poll promises they made will become laws in the first cabinet meeting on Saturday itself.

On Saturday, eight Cabinet Ministers also took oath as part of the newly elected government.

The Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (CLP) had met on 18 May and formally selected Siddaramaiah as its leader. Following this, the CM-designate and his deputy-to-be DK Shivakumar met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to stake claim to form the government.

This comes after days-long talks as both the leaders made their cases before the Congress central leadership in Delhi and mobilised MLAs to support them in Karnataka.

'Order For 5 Guarantees Given, Will Be In Force After first Cabinet Meeting': CM Siddaramaiah

"Five guarantees in the manifesto were promised and the order for the implementation of those five guarantees was given after the first cabinet meeting," CM Siddaramaiah said during a press conference.

"All will be in force after next cabinet meeting which will be called within a week," he added.

'Govt Before Us Was Useless': CM Siddaramaiah

"Government which was ruling before was useless, they couldn't get us the share of taxes properly. Centre has to give us Rs 5,495 crores as per the finance commission recommendation. Previous govt didn't get it. Nirmala Sitharaman is Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka and it's because of her and the PM Karnataka suffered losses," CM Siddaramaiah during a press conference at Vidhan Soudha.

'Can Implement Guarantees Without Pushing State into a Debt Trap': Siddaramaiah

"I am confident that we can implement the guarantees without pushing the state into a debt trap," Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said in a press conference after the first meeting of the state cabinet, The Indian Express reported.

"To implement these promises we need approx Rs 50000 crore," he said. 

Earlier, the Congress had promised that the five promises made during the elections will become laws in the first cabinet meeting of the new government.
