Defying early trends, the TRS on Friday, 4 December emerged to be the single largest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, with the BJP not far behind at the second spot.
The TRS won 55 seats, the BJP won 48, the AIMIM won 44 and the Congress won two.
While Home Minister Amit Shah and TRS’ KT Rama Rao both thanked the people of Hyderabad, Rao said that the results were not as the party had expexcted.
- While the early trends gave BJP a landslide victory, the party has emerged to be the second largest after TRS
- The AIMIM and the BJP have seen a neck and neck race all day when it came to number of seats
- The results are a jolt to the TRS which had won 99 seats in 2016 and a boost to the BJP which had won just 4 seats then
- The election was perceived to be one of the most polarised ones in recent times as the BJP went all guns blazing after the TRS and AIMIM during campaigning
