I have scored 87.7 percent in 12 PCM with IP. I wish to do B.Sc (Honors) in Physics. Can I apply to DU? Where else can I apply?Suraj Pratap
Dear Suraj,
It is difficult to predict the cut-offs when the application process is still on. However, in 2017, the first cut-off list for B.Sc Physics (Honors) was 88 percent in some colleges, while in other colleges it was as high as 97 percent.
Ideally, you should not have just one course preference. Since you have PCM background, we suggest that you apply for B.Sc courses.
B.Sc courses in DU are offered in multiple combinations like B.Sc physical science with physics, mathematics and chemistry, B.Sc physical science with physics, mathematics and computer science, B. Sc physical science with physics, mathematics and electronics, etc.
I am studying in class 12 in the Humanities stream, and my optional subject is Fine Arts. I’m interested to pursue degrees in the art field. I wish to know more about Jewellery Designing.Tanya Verma
Dear Tanya,
If you have the skill set and drive, then go ahead! Jewellery Design is a niche course, so ensure that you pursue it from a good institute. You may even look at other design specialisations like graphic designing, interior designing, fashion designing, shoe designing, etc.
Look up the top 10 colleges offering design courses in India across all specialisations, and also see a comparison between graphic designing and jewellery designing, fashion designing and interior designing, web designing, etc.
In fact, IIT Delhi had set up a School of Design in 2017 to offer design courses, if you are interested in exploring.
Ensure that you do a bachelor’s degree instead of a diploma or a certificate course, as the scope of work with a bachelor’s degree increases manifold.
I am currently in class 12 (Humanities). My subjects are: history, political science, economics, psychology and English. I wish to further study Journalism and Mass Communication. I wanted to know which colleges I could apply to. Can you also send me the list of undergraduate courses and colleges for which I am eligible for, along with their admission criteria (if there is any entrance exam or is it on merit base)?Anushka Sharma
Dear Anushka,
Journalism and Mass Communication is one of the most sought after courses nowadays, with excellent career prospects in (journalism) India. In fact, DU has already begun the registration process for admission to BJMC courses for 2018. There are many reputed colleges offering bachelor’s degree in journalism in India. Some of most prominent ones include:
- LSR, Indraprastha College, Kamla Nehru College, School of Journalism – Delhi University
- Loyola College, Chennai
- Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune
- Christ University, Bangalore
- Asian College of Journalism, Chennai
- Amity School of Communication, Noida
- KC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai
- Madras Christian College, Chennai
I’m a science student. I scored 68 percent in my class 12. But I failed in Maths. My subjects included English, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science. Is it possible for me to apply for BMS in DU and reappear in the maths board exam? Can you please also suggest some good colleges for BBA?Anonymous
Hello,
Maths is a critical subject to pursue BBA in DU. Without passing in that subject, you will not be able to get admission for BBA course. However, maths score from class 12 board exams is not mandatory for admission in some colleges like IP University and a few private colleges – Amity, Sharda, etc.
However, you can look at other options like economics, BMS, B.Com (pass), sociology, psychology, etc. for options.
I have just completed UG first year in DU. Now I want to take admission again this year in DU because I’m not comfortable with the course. So, is it important to cancel the current admission in order to take admission again this year?Zeshan Ali
Dear Zeshan,
It will be a big risk. Since the application process in DU is still on, you can apply, but DU already has records of you being a current student in the university. You will first need to cancel your admission and then collect your documents from the university, before applying again. We fear you do not have that kind of time as the application process starts from 19 June. Besides, you will not have any advantage as you will be equated with lakhs of students applying in 2018. If anything, the competition will be fierce this year (what with maximum percentages reaching 90+ in CBSE this year!).
Our suggestion is to do a parallel course from a private university or college that aligns with your career goals. But be prepared to toil very hard, because it will be tough juggling two courses at the same time.
I’m a B.Sc final year student from Bhubaneswar. I want to pursue my M.Sc in Botany. I’ve scored an aggregate of 80 percent in my B.Sc. Could you tell me apart from DU where all can I pursue my M.Sc in Delhi?Sweta Priyadarshini
Dear Sweta,
Some of the top M.Sc colleges in Delhi include:
