Netizens were left perplexed on Saturday, 23 November, after Bharatiya Janata Party's Devendra Fadnavis returned to the post of Maharashtra’s chief minister. The move came a day after the NCP-Shiv Sena-Congress alliance announced that Uddhav Thackeray would be the next CM of the state.
After the development of Saturday morning, which also saw NCP's Ajit Pawar taking oath the deputy CM, Twitter was left with one question – "What just happened?"
Why Are Netizens Confused?
To break this down, all this has happened in the past few weeks:
- In the Maharashtra Assembly polls, BJP won 105 seats, while the Shiv Sena won 56 seats.
- Opposition Congress won 44 seats, while the NCP won in 54 constituencies.
- Shiv Sena following the results demanded 50-50 power sharing formula in Maharashtra. BJP rejected the formula.
- Shiv Sena split from the NDA alliance and a post-poll alliance was supposedly reached with the Congress and NCP.
