From time immemorial, Muslims have played - you guessed it - the terrorist. Representation of Islam, and Muslims in general, could not be more parochial. A number of Indian and international shows are laced with Islamophobic undertones and narratives. However, the new Hulu show Ramy, starring Ramy Youssef, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime is a much needed breather. The show silently fights the prejudiced representation of Muslims by showing them as simple, normal people.

Ramy is a show about an Egyptian family living in New Jersey, USA. The show follows the struggles of Ramy, a first-generation American-Muslim who is trying to blend the realities of the Western world with the urges of his spiritual being. Can Islam be a way of life for normal people and not just a one-way ticket to an ISIS party? Ramy will tell.

The show makes you realise that Muslims have been misrepresented for years in pop culture. They are burdened by their stereotypical and wrongful portrayal. But Ramy, finally. gets it right.

Ramy is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
