After delivering a nail-biting semi final match against New Zealand on 9 July, MS Dhoni is being showered with love and respect online and singer Lata Mangeshkar has also joined that list.
She tweeted requesting him to not retire, like any loyal fan would.
“Desh ko aapke khel ki zaroorat hai” (India needs your cricket).
Before the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup began, there was a lot of speculation that this could be Dhoni’s last World Cup. Dhoni captained the Indian cricket team when they won the 2011 World Cup and made the win even more memorable as Sachin Tendulkar was set to retire that year.
After losing the semi finals, Indian cricket fans are urging Dhoni to stick around for at least the next World Cup.
Some fans are tweeting with the #DoNotRetireDhoni.
Tensions were really high when three important wickets fell just forty minutes into the match. However, the amazing partnership between Jadeja and Dhoni gave fans hope till the very end. Dhoni’s run out left a lot of Indians in tears.
Even the umpire exhaled a hefty "woah” when the appeal for Dhoni’s wicket was made!
Well we couldn’t agree with Lata Ji more. He does have a lot of cricket left in him and here’s hoping we do get to see him represent India for the 2023 World Cup too.
