The primary accused in the Kerala solar panel scam of 2013, Saritha S Nair, has made public her decision to take on Congress President Rahul Gandhi and contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency. She will be contesting as an Independent candidate.

As reported by The Indian Express, Nair will also be contesting in Ernakulam against Hibi Eden of the Congress, whom she had accused of molestation.

She has accused many high profile Congress party leaders in Kerala of sexual harassment and rape. It is also believed that she wrote many letters to Rahul Gandhi asking him to sideline the party members who had been accused with charges of sexual harassment.

Wayanad has received increasing attention after Rahul Gandhi decided to contest from that constituency. Saritha Nair will file her nominations from Wayanad on Thursday and from Ernakulam on Wednesday, reported The News Minute.

Fight to ‘Shame’ Leaders With Criminal Charges

She told The Indian Express that her intention with contesting from these seats was not to win. She said,

“I’m not contesting to become an MP or sit in the Lok Sabha. I’m fighting the elections to mock and shame those who have criminal charges levelled against them. I have always been labelled as a cheater. But how are these leaders, who have committed crimes against women, which are far serious than financial crimes, allowed to contest elections?”

She has also published a classified advertisement in some newspapers which also features the cases that she has been named in.

Other Candidates from Wayanad

Thusahar Vellappally, president of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), is the NDA candidate from Wayanad. Meanwhile, the Left Democratic Front, which has been the ruling coalition in Kerala since 2016, has decided to field CPI’s PP Suneer as its candidate from the seat.
