‘PM Arrogant Like Duryodhan,’ Says Priyanka; Amit Shah Retorts

This comes days after Modi referred to Priyanka’s father and former PM Rajiv Gandhi as “Bhrashtachari No 1”.

Launching an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi likened him to 'Duryodhana', on Tuesday, 7 May.

Priyanka went on to say that the character from the Mahabharata had “the same kind of arrogance” which “caused the downfall of Duryodhan.”

This comes days after Modi referred to Priyanka's father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as "Bhrashtachari No 1".

‘The country has never forgiven arrogance. Duryodhana had similar arrogance. When Lord Krishna tried to make him understand, he tried to capture him instead,’ said Priyanka Gandhi, at an election rally in Haryana’s Ambala.

She went on to quote poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, saying, “When someone is about to be destroyed, their wisdom ends first.”

According to The Indian Express, Priyanka, who is in charge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, added that the BJP leaders, in their poll campaign, have never said whether they will fulfil their promises. She said that they “seek votes in the name of martyrs or the martyr (Rajiv Gandhi) of her family.”

‘People Will Tell if Modi’s Duryodhan or Arjun,’ Amit Shah Responds

At an election rally in Bengal's Midnapore, BJP President Amit Shah responded to her statements and said,

"Priyanka Gandhi has compared Modi ji with Duryodhan. People of the country will decide who is Duryadhan and who is Arjun on 23 May. Priyanka ji, do not worry, people will tell you whether Modi ji is Duryodan or Arjun.”

At a rally in Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh on 5 May, Saturday, Modi took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi saying, "Your father was termed 'Mr Clean’ by his courtiers, but his life ended as 'Bhrashtachari (Corrupt) no. 1."

Modi's comment on Rajiv Gandhi invited widespread criticism from various opposition party members and has led to to a war of words between the BJP and the Congress. On Monday, he Congress even wrote a letter to the Election Commission, demanding action against Modi.
