Prashant Kishor, the master strategist who helped Nitish Kumar win the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections and guided Narendra Modi to victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, has played a role in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy clinching power in Andhra Pradesh.
On Thursday, 23 May, as the results for both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections were announced and Jagan’s YSR Congress emerged as a clear winner with massive leads in both the polls, Twitter credited ‘kingmaker’ Kishor.
‘Kishor Proves Again With Jagan Win’
People on Twitter while crediting Kishor for the win pointed that Congress needed one man to strategise for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party should have chosen Kishor. Some pointed that Kishor should strategise for JD(U) as well.
‘Cleaver Campaign Scripted by Kishor’
Reddy had joined hands with Prashant Kishor’s political consultancy Indian Political Action Commmittee (I-PAC), which worked with the party on their campaign for the past two years, with one team located at the YSRC headquarters in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills and another bunch of people working from the I-PAC office nearby.
I-PAC also had one Assembly Constituency Coordinator in each of Andhra’s 175 seats, aiding the YSRC candidates on the ground and providing daily feedback to the central team in Hyderabad.
YSR Congress party is currently leading in all 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh and in 152 out of 175 Assembly seats.
The party will form the government in Andhra Pradesh for the first time, with its party chief Jaganmohan Reddy all set to become the state’s next chief minister.
Reddy, who will be taking over the reins from TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, will hold the top post in the state for the first time as well. The YSRC is also going to be the third-largest party in the 17th Lok Sabha after the BJP and the Congress, if current trends hold.
