Kailash Vijayvargiya, a BJP politician from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday, 17 April, announced his decision to not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
He was made the National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party in a major reshuffle in 2015. He also currently serves as the election in-charge in West Bengal.
In a tweet, the BJP MLA, who would have fought from Indore, stated that a lot of people from Indore as well as well-wishers wanted him to fight the Lok Sabha elections. But, “it was everyone’s prime duty to ensure that Sri Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister again.”
He has prioritised staying in West Bengal and performing his role as the election in-charge over contesting himself.
In West Bengal, just on Tuesday, 16 April, responding to BJP’s concern over actor Ferdous Ahmed campaigning for TMC he told ABP News,
“I condemn the fact that after bringing Bangladeshi infiltrators, now the TMC is making use of Bangladeshi artistes. It is shameful to see Mamataji roping in Bangladeshi actors as she’s not finding anyone in India to do her work. This is a clear sign that her party is losing ground.”As reported by ABP News.
During the Madhya Pradesh elections in 2018, the BJP leaderhad said, as reported by Economic Times, “In fact, if all opposition parties come together and join hands, we will win then too. We have more than 50 percent of the total vote share in the state. And our support base is intact.”
The results were declared on 12 December 2018 with the INC forming the government after 15 years.
His son, Akash Vijayvargiya also contested in the elections in 2018. He was fielded in the Indore-3 constituency by the BJP.
Kailash Vijayvargiya stirred up quite a controversy in 2015 with his remarks on the Vyapam scam. "For us it (Vyapam) is a chutput (small) scam. It may be big for you," Vijayvargiya, the national general secretary of BJP, told reporters at India Today.
