The BJP, on 19 June, announced that it was breaking its three-year-old alliance with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir over the CM Mehbooba Mufti-led government’s failure to maintain peace in the Valley.
“It has become untenable for the BJP to continue in the alliance government in the state,” BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said at a press conference.
He said the BJP favoured governor's rule in the state.
The move comes following Amit Shah’s “urgent meeting” with BJP ministers in the Jammu and Kashmir government.
Following the announcement, J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tendered her resignation to Governor Narinder Nath Vohra.
