Pakistan Will Pay for This Misadventure: Def Min on Sunjwan Attack

She said Pakistan was responsible for backing JeM, and evidence to prove this was being gathered.

Addressing a press conference on the Sunjwan and Karan Nagar attacks in the valley, that killed seven persons in totem, Nirmala Sitharaman trained her guns on Pakistan, warning the neigbouring country that they would soon ‘pay for this misadventure’.

Stating that the attacks had been sponsored by the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Sitharaman said that Pakistan was responsible for providing the terror outfit with support, and evidence to prove this was being gathered.

Giving the evidences to Pakistan will be a continuous process. It will have to be proved over and over again that they are responsible. Pakistan will have to pay for this misadventure.

She also said that despite issuing dossiers repeatedly, Pakistan was yet to take any action.

Claiming that the terrorists were being controlled from ‘across the border’, Sitharaman said that apart from expanding base for terror activities, Pakistan had also resorted to ceasefire violations to assist infiltration by the militants.

Intelligence inputs show that terrorists were controlled by their handlers from across border. The evidence being scrutinised by NIA. Pakistan is expanding the arch of terror to areas south of Pir Panjal and resorting to ceasefire violations to assist infiltration.

Sitharaman also said reports suggested that there were four terrorists involved in the activities, of which three had been eliminated.

There were reports of four terrorists. The fourth terrorist must have been a guide and may not have entered the Camp area.

Militants attacked the Sunjwan army camp near Jammu in the wee hours of Saturday, 10 February. Six persons, including five armymen and the father of a jawan, died while 10 others were injured in the attack. At least three militants were also gunned down.

On Monday, 12 February, security forces foiled an attempted attack at a CRPF camp in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar. Local reports suggest that one CRPF jawan was killed in the gunfire exchange that ensued.
