The Quint’s poll chaupal reached Maharashtra’s Wardha which was an important centre of Mahatma Gandhi’s fight for India’s freedom. Wardha was always a Congress stronghold, but from 2014, the BJP has been fighting tooth and nail for the seat.

BJP had won 2 out of 4 seats here last time. But the 2019 battle is not going to be so easy for BJP-Shiv Sena, because the of the rebels contesting from Wardha.

The Quint spoke to the residents of Wardha to understand the issues that are bothering them. Are they happy with the current government? Has the Fadnavis government of Maharashtra ensured developments in Wardha?

“The government has done a very good job in the last 5 years. Due to the widening of roads, there is no traffic jam.”
Rishabh Jaju, Businessman

However, there are others who feel the government has done nothing apart from widening roads in Wardha in the last 5 years.

“The government has not done anything. This government should change. Inflation has increased, the government has done nothing for the farmers.”
Shweta Borkar, Homemaker

In the 2014 Assembly elections, out of the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly, the BJP won the highest – 142 seats. On the other hand, Shiv Sena stood second with 75 seats. Congress could win only 27, and NCP 29 seats.

Maharashtra goes to polls on 21 October and the results will be out on 24 October.
