Prime Minister Narendra Modi get a second term in office, according to the exit polls released on Sunday, 19 May. BloomberQuint’s Harsha Subramaniam decodes the exit poll numbers with BJP spokesperson Shaina NC and Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa.

The exit polls indicate mandate for stability, a strong leader and good governance, according to Shaina NC.

“We see from here on to 2024, the vision for a progressive country which only comes with a stable mandate. I appreciate the fact that every Indian has been a thinking voter and has chosen PM Modi over chaos, mayhem and unholy alliances.”

Meanwhile, Kalappa opined that the BJP is exulting before waiting for the actual results. “I don’t recall any election after 2014 where the BJP has won the election at least in the exit polls. I think we have to really wait for the results. There are certain leaders within the BJP who would like to exult over these results, they are welcome to. We have no problem with anybody being happy over these results,” he said.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front is on its way to secure a majority in Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha seats, six out of eight exit polls have predicted.

According to Kalappa, Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest from Wayanad has pushed the numbers of seats for the alliance.

Pubjab is also likely to be a silver lining for the Congress with an aggregate of the exit polls indicating that the Congress could win nine of 13 seats in the state.

“As far as Punjab situation is concerned, the Congress party is on a roll there. So, naturally we are expecting extremely good results,” Kalappa said.
