Former Indian Cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Vinod Kambli, Ajit Wadekar, and others reacted to the controversy around cricketer Mohammad Shami, at the inaugural ceremony of the T20 Mumbai League on Saturday, 10 March.

Former cricket stars Vinod Kambli, Sunil Gavaskar, and Lalchand Rajput chose to avoid making any statements on allegations raised by Mohammad Shami’s wife, that he had allegedly cheated on her, repeatedly stating that they wouldn’t want to comment on a “personal” issue.

Mohammed Shami’s wife had accused the Indian pacer of having extra-marital affairs, alleging that he has cheated on her with several other women.

Taking to Facebook, Hasin Jahan, Shami's wife, had posted screenshots and photos, allegedly of the cricketer with other women. Jahan also alleged domestic abuse at the hands of Shami and his family.

Shami had categorically denied all allegations made by his wife, on a post on Twitter.

‘Allegations of Match-Fixing Seem Baseless’

Former cricketer Ajit Wadekar, while refusing to comment on Shami’s wife’s allegations of infidelity and domestic abuse, said that her allegations of match-fixing seem to be baseless.

Cricket has a lot of money as is. Why would he need to resort to match-fixing? He doesn’t need to. Plus everyone is watching. I don’t think there’s any weight to the allegation that he was involved in match-fixing.
