A nine-year-old girl from Manipur’s Kakching town has been appointed as Green Ambassador on 7 August, by Chief Minister N Biren Singh after a video of her crying inconsolably over two fallen trees went viral.

Elangbam Valentina Devi was seen crying in a video after she found out that the two Gulmohar trees that she planted four years ago were uprooted due to a road-widening project.

The video was recorded by Valentina’s uncle. He said that it was the little girl’s sensitivity to nature that he wanted others to imbibe.

He said that when she was asked to stop crying, she said that she has to plant 20 saplings in place of the uprooted trees.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “When I saw the video of this little girl crying like anything, as if one of her family members has passed away. I was so moved by her compassion for the tree and I decided that there can be no better person to be the brand ambassador of our green mission.”
