A picture showing Twitter Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey holding a poster that says ‘Smash Brahminical Patriarchy’ has got him and his company into trouble.

The picture, posted by writer and journalist Anna MM Vetticad, has received heavy backlash on the social networking platform.

Some users accused the Twitter CEO of ‘bigotry’, ‘racism’, being party to ‘hate speech’, while some even went on to say that its time to ‘dump Twitter’.

Mohandas Pai, Chair of Manipal Global Education, also asked Jack how he can be “party to this kind of hate”. Mohandas Pai was the director of Infosys earlier.

Dorsey was also accused of attacking an "ethnic group". Following the backlash, Twitter India clarified on Twitter saying that it is not a statement from the Twitter CEO but instead, a tangible reflection of the company’s efforts to see, hear and understand all sides of important public conversations that happen around the world.

Twitter India further clarified that the poster, a representation of Project Mukti, a movement to empower Dalit women, was given to Jack by one of the Dalit activist participant.

Twitter’s legal head also issued an unofficial apology on her personal Twitter saying that this was just a gift that Jack had got from one of the women, and that it did not reflect their views.

“Twitter strives to be an impartial platform for all. We failed to do that here and we must do better to serve our customers in India.”
