Reliance JioPhone users can now rely on its native app to book train tickets in the country. The telecom operator has launched the JioRail app, targeting its 4G feature phone users, letting them book/cancel train tickets and even check PNR status without depending on other sources for such activities.
The app has been listed on the JioApp store but it seems Jio has confined the app to JioPhone users as of now. The company says the JioRail app will also get features like PNR status alert via notification, locate train and food ordering as well in the future.
For those who don’t have an IRCTC account, which is likely to be people using a basic feature phone till now, can sign up to the railway platform from the JioRail app.
Interestingly, Jio says that the app lets JioPhone users book tickets via the Tatkal process, for last minute travel plans.
JioPhone has steadily become the go-to device for people who’re getting exposed to high-speed internet for the first time.
Industry reports say that JioPhone has taken over more than 48 percent market share in the feature phone segment, thanks to its ultra-affordable price tag and support for host of popular apps like YouTube, WhatsApp and even Google Maps.
Users of the JioPhone have also been showered with new data plans that offer more validity for data and priced on the higher side as well.
Jio is now letting JioPhone users get 500MB of 4G data daily for up to 6 months with plans that cost as much as Rs 594. JioPhone and JioPhone 2 users will be able to avail these offers and the plans which have been updated on the company’s website.
