Gone are the days when users had to go through much pain to port their mobile number. Now, it is as simple as it is inexpensive. A subscriber can easily get their number ported to another service provider.

Customers today have access to a powerful tool – Mobile Number Portability. With MNP, they don’t have to unwillingly stick to their current service provider. Instead, they can move to service provider that provides them the best offers, customer service, data plans, etc.

With Mobile Number Portability users can change their service provider without having to change their mobile number. The number can also be ported from one service area to another of the same service provider.

Mobile Number Portability: Steps to Port Your Number

  • Choose the service provider you want to port your number to. You can do so by comparing packs, services, signal quality and perks provided by different service providers.
  • Send a message to obtain a UPC: Type PORT <space> Your Mobile Number and send it to 1900 to obtain your UPC.

It is important to note that this UPC will be valid only for 15 days whereas in the case of J&K, NE & Assam Service Areas, it will be valid for 30 days.

  • After receiving the UPC, visit the customer service centre of your chosen service provider.
  • You will have to fill the CAF and Porting Form and mention your UPC code on it.
  • Attach a recent passport size photograph and a self-attested copy of your photo identity proof.
  • You will receive an empty SIM card from the service centre once the documents are submitted and you have made the payment.
  • An message will be sent to you for confirmation of porting.
  • Another SMS regarding the date and time for porting will be sent to you by the operator.
  • Insert the new SIM in your phone. It takes a few hours for your number to be ported.

Mobile Number Portability: Things to Remember

  1. It is important to note that your number can only be ported if it has been working for a minimum of 90 days from your current service provider. If you have ported your number, it cannot be ported again before 90 days of being activated and operating by the current service provider.
  2. In case of a Corporate/Company connection, a No Objection Certificate is required. It must be duly signed and stamped on the company letterhead by the authorised signatory of the company. Other documents will also have to be submitted and porting charges of each number would be applicable.
  3. Postpaid subscribers will have to submit a paid copy of the last bill as well as the Porting Form and CAF.
  4. Subscribers must apply for porting their number before the validity of their UPC code expires i.e., 15 days and in the case of J&K, NE & Assam Service Areas, 30 days.
