From first doing away with the headphone jack to planning on killing the lightning connector, the Apple iPhone is likely to evolve into a design that doesn’t have any ports at all.

According to a report in 9to5Mac, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who released a note predicting the next two years of iPhone evolution, has said that the 2021 edition of the Apple iPhone will likely have no ports at all. Apple will rely entirely on wireless charging and even to sync data.

This would be a huge change, but not something people won’t get used to. There was some concern a few years ago when Apple killed off the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 models onwards.

However, it has continued using the lightning connector for charging and to some extent syncing, while also providing an adaptor for wired headphones.

Over a period of time iPhone users have got used to relying on wireless headphones (or Airpods) for music and usually carry a lightning charger. They could soon rely on an entirely wireless experience as well.

Kuo’s note goes on to point out what kind of phones Apple would likely bring out in 2020.

The analyst says Apple is likely to launch five new phones next year. This would include an iPhone SE 2 model (as an entry-level phone) with a 4.7-inch LCD display. The rest he says would be 5G enabled OLED display phones that would come out next September.

The top-spec flagship model would likely have a triple camera setup similar to the iPhone 11 Pro in 6.1-inch and 6.7 inch sizes like the Pro and Pro Max. The base model of the flagship model will likely come in a smaller 5.4 inch size with two cameras as well, predicts Kuo.
