The launch of OnePlus 6T is just around the corner and the company has already teased it via TV commercial and listing it as an Amazon exclusive for India.

Recently, it was hinted that the 6T (the name was confirmed this week) is likely to launch on 17 October, which is less than a month away. Leaks and rumours have pointed out numerous changes to the second OnePlus flagship phone of 2018. So, what can we expect from the OnePlus 6T and is it going to be a big upgrade on the OnePlus 6?

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming phone.

Ever since Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus launched the OnePlus 6, rumours about OnePlus 6T have gathered traction. This week, those speculations were put to rest, as Amazon listed OnePlus 6T on its website with a Coming Soon tag attached to it.

The existence of the 6T was confirmed by the OnePlus forum’s Assistant Head moderator last month. Replying to a person’s query on whether he should wait for the OnePlus 6T or should he buy the Oneplus 6, the moderator said, “If you want to wait for 6T please do so as it will be out in coming months.”

No Headphone Jack!

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei in a recent interview has confirmed that its upcoming OnePlus 6T phone will not carry a headphone jack for your wired audio gear. OnePlus will be the latest mobile brand to ditch the headphone jack, a trend which was first adopted by Apple with the iPhone 7 series.

The company claims that removing the headphone jack will help the 6T with improved battery life and possibly add IP68 protection for better resistance to dust and water.

In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

Vivo Nex already offers in-display fingerprint reader.  (Photo: The Quint)

This feature was first made available via Vivo phones like the X21, Vivo Nex and the recently launched V11 Pro, all of which are selling in the Indian market. The inclusion of this technology could result in a thicker OnePlus device, in order to accommodate the extra layer of screen under the display.

We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action. By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.

Same Hardware as OnePlus 6

The 6T is also going to be the first OnePlus phone to sport a water drop notch.

It’s unlikely that the 6T will see major changes with respect to hardware. Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is still the go-to flagship processor, with 6 or 8GB RAM and storage extending up to 256GB. It’ll get IP68 rating (hopefully) and a bigger battery on board.

It’ll still support dual-SIM and we’re still looking at 6.2-inch or at best, 6.4-inch sized screen with 1080 pixels resolution. The cameras are likely to see a minor upgrade in the sensors, everything else should be the same.

Could Get Costlier?

How much will the OnePlus 6T cost? With additions like in-display fingerprint sensor, IP 68 protection and bigger battery, there’s a good chance that the base variant of the 6T could get a sticker price of Rs 38,000 or even more.

Hopefully, OnePlus 6T stays premium with its features and not the pricing, especially with the OnePlus 6 likely to be discontinued.
