India registered a thrilling 11-run win over Afghanistan to maintain their unbeaten run in the ongoing ICC World Cup on Saturday, 22 June. Afghanistan took the game right till down till the final over, but a Mohammed Shami hat-trick denied them what could have been one of the biggest upsets in history.
A terrific bowing performance by the Afghanistan bowlers saw India being limited to a total of 224/8 in 50 overs. For the first time this World Cup, both openers failed to fire but captain Virat Kohli scored a 63-ball 67. In the middle-order, MS Dhoni scored 28 while Vijay Shankar added 29 and Kedar Jadhav, 52, as India managed to reach a respectable total against the 10-ranked team.
On their way to defend the total, Shami picked up a total of four wickets, including a hat-trick in the final over of the game. Jasprit Bumrah took the key wickets of Hasmatullah Zazai (21) and Rahmat Shah (36) who played a key role in the middle-order.
