Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday, 14 July, became the fourth Indian, second wicketkeeper and 12th cricketer overall to cross the 10,000-run mark in ODIs.
The 37-year-old former India skipper joined an elite list, which features some of India's greatest batsmen in Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, during India’s second ODI against England.
Earlier in the day, Dhoni also became the fourth wicket-keeper to complete 300 ODI catches after Adam Gilchrist (417), Mark Boucher (403) and Kumar Sangakkara (402).
Ahead of the second ODI, Dhoni needed just 33 runs to achieve the 10,000-run milestone and he did it with a single in the 43rd over at the iconic Lord's Stadium.
The former India captain is currently placed 12th in the list of all-time highest run-getters in ODIs.
Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara is the only wicketkeeper-batsman to feature in the list with 14,234 runs to his name. He is the second highest run-getter in the ODIs, behind only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Dhoni became the first batsman to enter the 10,000-run club in ODIs with an average of more than 50. The 37-year-old’s average after India’s ODI against England at Lord’s is 51.30.
MS Dhoni, who made his ODI debut way back in 2004, took 273 innings to breach the 10,000-run landmark in One-Days.
