India vs England: Shafali Verma’s Girls Ready To Conquer the World

The Indian U19 women’s team will face the very last challenge in their quest of conquering the world, as they take on England in the final of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023. The fixture will be played out at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

India have been pretty flawless in this competition so far, having won all of their matches barring one.

Shafali Verma’s girls started their campaign with a 7-wicket win over the hosts, before concluding their group stage campaign with massive victories against the United Arab Emirates and Scotland.

The first match of Super 6 is where the spirited youngsters struggled to turn up, as they suffered a 7-wicket defeat against the Aussies. That being said, they did manage to turn the tables with a comfortable victory against Sri Lanka, before running riots in the semi-final, wherein they handed New Zealand an 8-wicket defeat.

The challenge in the final, however, will be more difficult than anything Verma’s team has faced so far, as up against them will be the only team to have remained unbeaten so far in this competition – the young Lionesses.

Led by the mightily talented Grace Scrivens, England won all of their three group stage matches against Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Rwanda, without breaking a sweat. They also brushed aside Ireland and West Indies comfortably in the Super 6 phase.

Australia did manage to pose a real threat in the semi-final, but the English teenagers showcased nerves of steel as they managed to eke out a three-run victory, despite having only a meagre 99 runs to defend.

India vs England: India Opt to Bowl First

Indian skipper Shafali Verma won the toss here at Senwes Park, and she has opted to bowl first.

India vs England: Wicket in the First Over

Incredible! It is 'advantage India' here, as they have scalped a wicket in the very first over. English opener tries a pull off Titas Sadhu's bowling, but ends up miscuing it straight onto the safe palms for the speedster.

England are 1/1 after 1 over.

India vs England: Almost Another

This is brilliant bowling from the young Indian lionhearts, who are taming the Lionesses here in Potchefstroom. The girls in blue almost had another breakthrough as Niahm Fiona Holland's late cut off Archana Devi's bowling just evaded the first slip.

Here she is, India's captain, with her first wicket of the game! Shafali Verma outfoxes Hannah Baker before Richa Verma showcases her electrifying glovework to complete an impressive stumping.

India are 22/2 after 4 overs.

India vs England: DROPPED!

Have England dropped the match here? Dismissing India's top three inside the first five overs would have provided them with a ray of hope, but that is not to be as Grace Scrivens drops a catch of Soumya Tiwari at first slip.

India are 27/2 after 5 overs.

India vs England: End of Powerplay, India Primed to be Champions
