Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 saw India winning four medals - gold medals in women's fours lawn bowls and men's team table tennis, and silver medals in mixed team badminton and men's 96kg weightlifting, by Vikas Thakur.
The Indian contingent will be looking for another successful outing on Day 6, as plenty of superstar athletes will be in action.

Right then, Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 is all set to begin with weightlifting action. Lovepreet Singh is competing in men's 109kg final.
The 24-year-old has listed 157kg for his first attempt in the snatch round, which happens to be the highest among all lifters.
While Lovepreet Singh prepares for his first lift, there is judo action happening simultaneously as well.
Judoka Deepak Deswal has won his round of 16 match in men's 109kg category, beating Cameroon’s Eric Jean Sebastien Omgba Fouda via Ippon. In his next match, he will be up against England's Harry Lovell-Hewitt.
Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh is successful in his first attempt in the snatch round, lifting 157kg. He is currently second in the standings, but has two more attempts remaining in this round.
Lovepreet Singh is on the second place in the standings after the completion of the snatch round in men’s 109kg weightlifting final. The 2021 Commonwealth Senior Championship silver medallist is successful in all of his three snatch attempts – lifting 157kgm 161kg and 163kg respectively.
The Indian women's lawn bowls pair of Lovely Choubey and Nayanmoni Saikia won their second round fixture. They defeated Niue's pair of Hina Rereiti and Olivia Eunice Buckingham 23-6. In the third round, Lovely and Nayanmoni will be up against South Africa’s Bridget Calitz and Colleen Piketh.
The match will be played today, from 4pm.
Lovepreet Singh is successful in both of his first two attempts in the clean and jerk round. The lad from Amritsar lifted 185kg in his first attempt, while in his second try, he made a new national record by lifting 189kg.
Currently, Lovepreet is leading the charts with a total of 352kg (163kg + 189kg).
It has been a thoroughly impressive performance from Lovepreet Singh, who is successful is all of his six lifts. In his last attempt in the clean and jerk round, the 24-year-old lifted 192kg.
Lovepreet finishes with a total of 355kg (163kg + 192kg), and is currently occupying the third place in the standings.
While Lovepreet Singh waits for the field to complete their lifts, the Indian women's hockey team is currently taking on Canada for their last group stage fixture.
Janneke Schopman's team has made a good start, leading 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. Salima Tete scored the goal for the Indians in the third minute.

The weightlifter from Ludhiana was absolutely impeccable during the men's 109kg weightlifting final - completing all of his six lifts successfully.
With a best lift of 163kg in the snatch round and 192kg in the clean and jerk round, Lovepreet finished third with a total of 355kg – only 3kg behind silver medallist Jack Hitila Opeloge.
With his remarkable accomplishment, the 24-year-old becomes India’s 14th medallist at the Commonwealth Games 2022, and fourth bronze medallist after Gururaja Poojary, Vijay Kumar Yadav, Harjinder Kaur and Lovepreet Singh.
With Lovepreet opening India's medal tally for Wednesday, we shift out attention to judo.
Tulika Maan has qualified for the women’s +78kg semi-finals after beating Mauritius Tracy Durhone via Ippon. In her next game, she will be up against New Zealand’s Sydnee Andrews.
On the contrary, Deepak Deswal is out of medal contention. He lost his quarter-final tie in men’s 100kg category against England’s Harry Lovell-Hewitt, while in the repechage, Deswal suffered a defeat against Fiji’s Tevita Takayawa.

After beating Mauritius’ Tracy Durhone in the first match of women’s +78kg category, she got the better of New Zealand’s Sydnee Andrews in the semi-finals. The two-time Commonwealth Championship gold medallist won her contest in 1 minutes and 53 seconds by scoring an Ippon.
In the final, which will take place later today, she will be up against Scotland’s Sarah Adlington.
It will be a busy day in boxing for India, with as many as five boxers being involved. But if morning does show the day, the Indian fans can keep their hopes high as Nitu Ghanghas has made it to the semi-finals of women's minimumweight category, thereby assuring another medal.
The 21-year-old youngster produced a strong show against Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde, forcing her opponent to abandon the match after only two rounds.
She will take on Canada’s Priyanka Dhillon in the semi-final round. The bout will start at 3pm on August 6.
The Indian women's hockey team has managed to confirm their berth in the semi-finals by handing Canada a hard-fought 3-2 defeat.
In what was a virtual knockout game, Salima Tete’s third-minute goal gave India an early lead, while Navneet Kaur made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute. Goals from Brienne Stairs and Hannah Haughn got the Canadians back in the game, but Lalremsiami scored from a penalty corner in the 51st minute to take her team through to the semi-finals.
Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 has panned out pretty much the way Indian fans would have wanted. Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh has won a bronze medal to take the nation's total tally to 14, while judoka Tulika Maan and boxer Nitu Ghanghas have also assured medals.
However, we are not even halfway into Day 6, and plenty of superstar athletes are yet to feature. The Indian women's cricket team will be taking on Barbados in a virtual knockout game from 10:30pm, while at 6:30pm, the men's hockey team will be up against Wales.
In boxing, prime medal contenders Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain will be in action later today. Nikhat's bout will start at 11:15pm, while Lovlina will be in action from 11:45pm.
Besides that, weightlifting will conclude today, and Gurdeep Singh and Purnima Pandey will hope to end India's exemplary weightlifting campaign on a positive note.
After Nitu Ghanghas, it is Mohammed Hussamuddin's turn to assure another Commonwealth Games 2022 medal in boxing. He is taking on Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo.
Mohammed Hussamuddin has assured yet another medal in boxing. The 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist handed his Namibian opponent, Tryagain Morning Ndevelo, a 4-1 via a split decision to make it to the semi-finals in men's featherweight category.
In his semi-final bout, the Nizamabad-born boxer will be up against the winner of the bout between New Zealand’s Alex Mukyka and Ghana’s Joseph Commey.
The Indian men's hockey team is currently in action, taking on Canada in their third group stage fixture. After starting their campaign with a stunning 11-0 win over Ghana, Graham Reid's team played out a disappointing draw against England in their previous outing, where they conceded three goals in six minutes.

In India's penultimate weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2022, Purnima Pandey is competing in the women's 87+kg finals. The 24-year-old from Varanasi won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Senior Championship last year.

Vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh’s immaculate drag-flick from a penalty corner handed India the lead in the fifth minute, while veteran defender Amit Rohidas did well to receive a pass from the right flank and find the back the net with his shot in the 10th minute.
The Indians launched a barrage of attacks on the Canadian goal-mouth, and at the end of the second quarter, they are leading 4-0.
Striker Lalit Upadhyay made it 3-0 for the men in blue when he converted a penalty corner in the 20th minute, while only seven minutes later, his partner-in-crime, Gurjant Singh also got his name on the scoresheet.
It's the penultimate weightlifting event of the 2022 Commonwealth Games and there's India's Purnima Pandey competing in the 87kg event.
She fouled the first and third lifts of the Snatch round and has the best effort of 103kg. She currently stand fifth in the field with England's Emily Campbell in the lead with a lift of 121kg in her second effort.
The Indian men's hockey team have completed an 8-0 whitewash of Canada in their third Pool B match. The win takes the team to the top position in the group with 7 points from 3 wins and 1 draw.
Indian weightlifter Purnima Pandey lifts 125kg in her first attempt at clean and jerk but with her second lift marked at 130kg, she is unable to execute it. Her third and final lift has to take place immediately after and the 24-year-old is unable to complete this one as well.
She finishes with 103kg in the snatch and 125kg in clean and jerk and is placed 6th in a field of 10 wightlifters.
A little breather on this Wednesday night at the Commonwealth Games before some big medal favourites are seen in action later tonight.

Saurav Ghosal is the only Indian left in contention for a medal in the individual events of squash and the stalwart is currently playing the bronze medal match against England's James Willstrop.

35-year-old Saurav Ghosal has created history in Birmingham by becoming the first-ever Indian to win a singles medal in squash at the Commonwealth Games.
Saurav defeated 2018 CWG gold medallist James Willstrop 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 to win the bronze in the men's singles event.
Ghosal, playing his fourth CWG, broke into tears after closing the win against the former world number one. This is his second CWG medal, after he won the mixed doubles silver with Dipika Pallikal at the 2018 CWG.
Judoka Tulika Maan has lost her gold medal match to Scotland's Sarah Adlington via ippon in the +78kg final, and will now return with a silver.
Tulika started defensively and earned two cautions against the 2014 CWG gold medallist but, she got a point when she managed to bring her opponent down. However, the judoka from Scotland launched a superb attack and brought down Tulika to earn an Ippon to win the match, with less than one minute remaining on the clock.
Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen has sailed into the semi-finals of the light flyweight category, defeating Wales' Helen Jones 5-0.
Nikhat is now assured a medal along with Nitu Ganghas and Mohammad Hussamuddin who won their quarter-finals earlier today.
Indian weightlifter Gurdeep Singh has lifted a mammoth 223 kgs in his final lift of the 109+kg final and jumped to the top spot in the standings.
Gurdeep lifted 167kg in the snatch round and then started with 207kg in the clean and jerk. His second lift was for 215kg, which was unsuccessful and he went all-in for the last lift and increased it to 223kg, a Games record, and completed the lift.
Pakistan's Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt broke the clean and jerk CWG record record set by Gudeep just a while back and has now set the record at 232kg, to bag the gold medal in the 109+kg final. His total lift was 405kg, also a CWG record.
David Liti of New Zealand has won the silver with a total lift of 394kg and Gurdeep bagged the bronze with 390kg.
With Gurdeep's bronze, India has ended its weightlifting campaign with 10 medals - three gold, three silver and four bronze.
Lovlina Borgohain has lost her 70kg quarter-final bout to Rosie Eccles of Wales by split decision.
Leading by a slight margin after the opening two rounds, the 24-year-old Tokyo bronze medallist went down via 2-3 split decision to the 2018 CWG silver medallist.
Probably had the hardest of routes to the Commonwealth Games, among all of India's 200+ athletes, but Tejaswin Shankar has ensured redemption is his by winning the bronze medal in the men's high jump.
The national record holder cleared 2.22m for his first CWG medal.
Hamish Kerr of New Zealand won the gold while Australia's Brandon Starc clinched the silver. Both cleared 2.25m but could not soar over 2.28m however, the Kiwi won the gold on count back.
Harmanpreet Kaur's Indian women's cricket team has qualified for the semi-final with a 100-run win over Barbados.
India were put into bat first and opener Shafali Verma hit a 26-ball 43 while Jemimah Rodrigues scored a half century as the team scored 162/4 in their 20 overs. During the chase, Renuka Singh picked up 4 wickets, and conceded just 10 runs as Barbados were restricted to 62/8. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Sneh Rana, Meghna Singh and Radha Yadav chipped in with a wicket apiece. Kyshona Knight was the top-scorer for Barbados with 16 while Shakera Selman made 12. Seven of their batters failed to reach double-digit figures.
India will next play New Zealand in the semi-final on Saturday.
