India’s gold medal count at the 2023 Asian Games was opened by the 10m Air Rifle team of Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh, Divyansh Singh Panwar, who created a new world record.
The Indian women's cricket team added to the gold tally by beating Sri Lanka in the final.
Shooters earned two more bronze medals – Aishwary in men's 10m Air Rifle, and the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team.
India ended their rowing campaign with 5 medals.

Day 2 for the Indian athletes will kickstart with the first event being shooting – men's 10m air rifle and 25m rapid fire pistol. Divyansh Singh Panwar and Rudrankksh Patil will be up in action soon.

India's hope for medal in the men's single sculls final comes to an end as Balraj Pawar has secured the fourth spot with a timing of 7:08.79. He's behind by a huge margin of 11.73 seconds.
Liang Zang of China won the race in 6:57.06, while Ryuta Arakawa came in second (6:59.79), and Hin Chun Chiu of Hong Kong took third place (7:01.55).

Rowing: In the men's four final event which is currently taking place at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre, India's Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar and Ashish are participating.
India's first gold medal of the 2023 Asian Games has come as the Indian shooting trio of Rudrankkash Patil, Aishwarya Pratap Singh and Divyansh Singh Panwar have finished with a world record score of 1893.7 in the 10m air rifle team event.
Rudrankksh Patil and Aishwary Pratap Singh have advanced to the 10m air rifle final which will be held at 9am IST, however Divyansh Singh Panwar was tied with Islam Satpayev of Kazakhstan for eighth place and will be missing out as the Asian Games rules allow only two shooters to compete in the final.
Another medal in India's kitty - In the men's four final event, team India comprising Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar and Ashish have clinched the bronze medal.
The men's quadruple sculls final team of Satnam, Parminder, Jakar and Sukhmeet have brought another bronze home with a timing of 6:08.61. The gold medal is bagged by China (6:02.65), Uzbekistan (6:04.64) take home the silver.
Women's 50m backstroke swimmer Maana Patel places sixth in her heat and 18th overall, missing out on the final.
Having placed outside of the top eight in their respective heats, Anand AS and Vikram Khade have also failed to qualify for the men's 50 freestyle final.
Srihari Nataraj clocked a time of 25.43 to qualify for the men's 50m backstroke final. He came in sixth place all around.
Likith Selvaraj qualified for the men's 100-meter breaststroke final with a time of 1:01.98.
In women's eight final, the Indian team of Sonali Swain, Ritu Kaudi, Priya Devi, Thangjam, Varsha Baiju, Awasthi Babu, Mrunmayee Nilesh, Tendenthoi Devi, Rukmanee and Geetanjali came in the last place.
China, Japan and Vietnam won the gold, silver and bronze respectively.
India suffered an embarrassing 0-15 defeat at the hands of Singapore in their women's rugby sevens Pool F fixture.
India's Rudrankksh Patil and Aishwary Pratap Singh are participating in the 10m air rifle shooting final. The duo will be longing to add another gold to India's tally.
Tennis: Third seeded at the 2023 Asian Games, Ankita Raina of India defeated Sabrina Olimjonova of Kazakhstan 6-0, 6-0 in the second round of the women's singles.
Meanwhile, Sunatullo Isroilov of Tajikistan was defeated by Ramkumar Ramanathan in their round 2 men's singles match.
India's Aishwary and Rudrakkansh are tied at the third place.
The Mongolian shooter has been eliminated. Both Indians are in the final. Medal confirmed!!!
It's down to the two Indians as the final reaches the top three stage. Rudrankkash has been in the lead so far but both shoot 208.7 in the round and it goes to a shootoff. Aishwary manages to outshoot his higher ranked compatriot and its the 22-year-old who enters the top three of the 10m Air Rifle final. Rudrankkash has been eliminated in the fourth position

Meanwhile, China's Lihao Shang broke the world record with 253.3 winning the gold and silver was clinched by Korea's Hajun Park with 251.3.
Cricket: Bangladesh women (65/5 in 18.2 overs) beat Pakistan women (64/9) by 5 wickets to claim bronze in cricket.
Tennis: Rutuja Bhosale defeated Kazakhstan's Aruzhan Sagandykova 7-6(2), 6-2 in two hours to get to the third round.
Ankita Raina defeated Sabrina Olimjonova of Uzbekistan. 6-0, 6-0
Judo: In the Women's 70kg Round of 16, Indian judoka Garima Choudhary was defeated by Philippine Ryoko Salinas by Ippon.
One more bronze for India! With 1718 points, the Indian team of Vijayveer Sidhu, Anish, and Adarsh Singh have won a bronze.
Vijayveer, who won the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men's Qualifications with 582 points, including 18 inner 10s, has advanced to the final, which will start at 11:30am IST.
Team India have won the toss and have decided to bat first against Sri Lanka in the gold medal math. Harmanpreet Kaur resumes captain duties after two match suspension.

Pakistan's Ghulam Mustafa Bashir moves past Sidhu to take the second spot in the standing, Sidhu slips to the sixth.
It's Bashir vs Sidhu now. Bashir (8/4) has taken the lead while Sidhu has sprung up to the third spot. He gets 3/5 in Series 2. Sigh!
In the 3rd series, Sidhu manages to score four out of the five.

Pakistan's Ghulam Mustafa Bashir has been eliminated. He had a total score of 13.
In the 5th series, Sidhu gets four shots right out of five. He's 18 points to his credit and is sitting 3rd on the table.
Sidhu picks up the pistol for the 6th series and gets 3/5. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Anang Yulianto has been eliminated.
India's Vijayveer Sidhu has been eliminated in the 7th series. He had a total score of 21.
Team India have reached the 50-run mark in the 9th over of the game. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues batting at 25 and 17 respectively. India lost Shafali Verma to Sugandika Kumari at just 9.
In their opening group stage encounter against Uzbekistan, the Indian women's 3x3 basketball team was defeated 19–14. On September 27, India will play China in their final Pool A encounter. The women's 3x3 team will participate in the quarterfinal or qualify for the quarterfinal round on September 30, depending on the outcomes.
Tennis: The Uzbek pair of Sergey Fomin and Sultanov have pulled a major upset as they defeated the Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri in Men's Double Round 2. The Indian pair prevailed in the opening set before losing in the second set and tiebreaker. Uzbekistan won the game 2-6, 6-3, and 10-6 in its favor. The defending champions have been knocked out!
Starting off their Asian Games 2023 campaign with a 20-16 victory over Malaysia in 3x3 basketball, India men defeated Malaysia.
On September 27, they will play Macao China in their second men's round-robin Pool C match; on September 29, they will face China. The teams who placed second and third in the pool will compete in cross-pool matches for a position in the quarterfinals, while the pool winners will advance directly there.
Rutuja Bhosale advanced to the third round with a 7-6, 6-2 victory in the women's singles round 2. The 27-year-old Rutuja defeated Kazakhstan's Aruzhan Sagandykova after a tough opening set, which lasted 121 minutes.
India women post a target of 116-7. Top batters for India were Smriti Mandhana(46) and Jemimah Rodrigues(42) while for Sri Lanka Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari and skipper Chamari Athapaththu performed well with the ball as they scalped two wickets each.
Rutuja Bhosale and Karman Kaur Thandi of India advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zhanel Rustemova and Aruzhan Sagandykova of Kazakhstan. Rutuja will now compete in Round 2 of the Mixed Doubles tournament partnering Rohan Bopanna, who previously lost in the men's doubles second-round match.
The Indian pair will be up against Uzbekistan.
Sri Lanka lose two wickets as Titas Sadhu strikes twice in the third over to remove Anushka Sanjeewani and Vishmi Gunaratne. A much needed respite for India.

Meanwhile in handball, the Indian women's team have started their campaign with a defeat. Up against Japan, Madanagurusami Karthikeyan's team suffered a 13-41 defeat. For India, 25-year-old Menika was the most influential player, scoring four goals.

This might be the biggest wicket of the lot. Sri Lanka lose their fourth, but more importantly, have they lost the gold medal too?
Hasini Perera was looking in sublime touch, but trying to play the slog-sweep against Rajeshwari Gayakwad's bowling, she has picked out Pooja Vastrakar in deep mid-wicket.
After 11 overs, Sri Lanka are 54/4.
ICYMI – Judoka Garima, who won a gold medal in South Asian Games back in 2019, was defeated in her round of 16 tie of women's 70kg category. Philippines' Ryoko Salinas won by ippon.
The women's cricket team is on the verge of winning the gold medal, courtesy of a fine bowling performance. Chasing a target of 117 runs, Sri Lanka are 78/4 after 16 overs, requiring 39 runs from the last four overs.
The job is not done yet, but you can start celebrating. India need to defend 25 runs in the final over. After 19 overs, Sri Lanka's score reads 92/7.

India have their second gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games, and it has arrived in women's cricket. Harmanpreet Kaur's side has been exemplary in the final, beating a spirited Sri Lanka team by 19 runs.
After opting to bat first, India scored 116 runs on what was an extremely difficult surface for the batters, courtesy of Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues' contributions.
With the ball, youngster Titas Sadhu was India's most influential player, scalping three wickets by conceding only six runs. Barring Amanjot Kaur, who only bowled an over, every Indian bowler was among wickets, as Sri Lanka could score merely 97 runs.
With shooting, cricket and rowing now done, let's turn our attention to what has been happening in chess.
Currently, the fourth round of men's and women's individual competition is underway. In the third round, which happened earlier today, Vidit Gujarathi defeated Thailand's Prin Laohawirapap, while Arjun Erigaisi got the better of Vietnam's Nguyen Ngoc Troung Son.
The women's pair of Harika Dronavalli and Koneru Humpy were immaculate yesterday, but they haven't replicated the same form today. Koneru drew against China's Zhu Jiner, while Harika lost against Hou Yifan.
In swimming, Indian athletes will be seen competing in three medal events later in the day. We've got you covered:

So, after four of the nine rounds of men's and women's individual rapid, here's how the standings look in chess:
In men's section, Arjun Erigaisi is third with 3.0 points. With the same number of points, Vidit Gujarathi is sixth.
In women's section, both Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli have 2.5 points to their name. Whilst Koneru is placed in sixth position, Harika is seventh on the standings.
Boxer Arundhati Choudhary has suffered a defeat in her round of 16 tie in the women's 60-66kg category. Up against China's Liu Yang, the 21-year-old pugilist, who hails from Rajasthan's Kota and has impressive records in youth level, went down 0-5 on points.
Great news coming from Wushu!
Roshibina Devi Naorem has advanced to the semi-final of women's 60kg by defeated her Kyrgyz opponent, Aiman Karshyga, in the quarter-final tie. The bronze medallist of 2018 Commonwealth Games secured a win by gap point (WPD).
With this victory, she has assured at least another bronze medal, but will certainly be determined to qualify for the final. In the semi-final contest, Roshibina will be facing Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy.
The final round of men's 50m backstroke in swimming has just concluded, with India's Srihari Nataraj finishing on the sixth position. The four-time South Asian Games gold medallist clocked a timing of 25.39s, finishing 1.01s behind the first ranked Jiayu Xu.
Boxer Deepak has breezed into the round of 16 of men's 46-51kg with a comfortable victory to start his campaign in Hangzhou. The 26-year-old, who is coming into this competition high on confidence, having recently won a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships, defeated Malaysia's Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin 5-0 on points.
The road to a medal in this competition, however, will not be easy, as Deepak will face a stern challenge in the next round, where he will be up against Japan's Tomoya Tsuboi – the 2021 World Boxing Championships' gold medallist.
Another victory in wushu, and once again, it is a bronze medallist from the 2018 Asian Games who has emerged victorious.
Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh, the 27-year-old from Jammu & Kashmir, has defeated Uzbekistan's Islambek Khaydarov 2-1 to qualify for the quarter-final of men's 60kg category.
In the penultimate swimming event of the day, which was men's 100m breaststroke final, Likith Selvaraj Prema has finished seventh with a timing of 1:01.62. He finished 3.86s behind the gold medallist, China's Haiyang Qin.
Another seventh-placed finish in swimming.
The men's 4x200m freestyle relay team of Aryan Nehra, Aneesh Gowda, Kushagra Rawat and and Tanish George have finished seventh with a timing of 7:29.23. They were 27.50s behind the gold medal-winning team from South Korea, who created a new Asian Record.
And with this, swimming events have concluded for the day.
In wushu, Vikrant Baliyan has been handed what could be said as a rather unexpected defeat. The bronze medallist of 2019 Wushu World Championships, who was competing in the 1/8 final tie of men's 64kg category, lost out to Indonesia's Samuel Marbun 1-2.
Another win in boxing!
After Deepak, his Indian compatriot and fellow bronze medallist of 2023 World Boxing Championships, Nishant Dev breezed into the round of 16. In his round of 32 tie in men's 63.5-71kg category, the 22-year-old youngster from Haryana's Karnal defeated Nepal's Dipesh Lama 5-0.
In the round of 16, Nishant will be up against Vietnam's Bui Phuoc Tung.
And with Nishant's victory, India's campaign on Day 2 of the 2023 Asian Games come to a fruitful conclusion. India won six medals today, which also included two gold medals, taking the nation's tally to 11.
The trio of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar secured India's first gold medal – at the men's 10m Air Rifle team event.
Later in the day, Aishwary, the 22-year-old prodigy who recently won a gold medal in World Championships, added a bronze medal to his tally in the men's 10m Air Rifle individual event.
India's rowing campaign concluded with five medals, with a couple of additions today – bronze medals in men's coxless four (Jaswinder Singh, Punit Kumar, Bheem Singh, Ashish) and men's quadruple sculls (Satnam Singh, Jakar Khan, Parminder Singh, Sukhmeet Singh).
The second gold medal came in women's cricket, where Harmanpreet Kaur's girls defeated Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final tie.
Besides that, Roshibina Devi Naorem assured at least a bronze medal by qualifying for the semi-final of women's 60kg category in Wushu.
In boxing, Nishant Dev and Deepak, two bronze medallists from the 2023 World Boxing Championships, qualified for the next round, although Arundhati Choudhary was eliminated in her first bout.
There will be more medals up for grabs tomorrow – the first of which will be as early as 5:30am, in Equestrian. India's star fencer, CA Bhavani Devi will also be in action.
