On 15 August 2019, India celebrated its 73rd year of independence. In Kashmir, this day of celebrating freedom was ushered in with a curfew-like situation and security personnel deployed everywhere.

As Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik hoisted the Indian flag in Srinagar’s Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium, residents of Kashmir were seen celebrating the day in quite a traditional fashion.
