US Senator Bernie Sanders kick-started his 2020 presidential campaign on Saturday, 2 March, in Brooklyn, New York, and vowed to defeat Donald Trump, calling him "the most dangerous president in modern American history," reported AFP.

The Vermont independent voiced confidence at the address and said, "I want to thank all of you for being part of a campaign, which is not only going to win the Democratic nomination, which is not only going to defeat Donald Trump, who is the most dangerous president in modern American history."

Stressing on the need to create a just economy, Sanders said that with the help of everyone, it is possible to create an economy and a government which works for all the people, not just one percent.

The 77-year-old Vermont senator lost the 2016 Democrat race to Hillary Clinton.

More than 10 others are also running to be a Democrat candidate, including Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and the Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro.

Promising the people, Sanders said that his campaign will not focus on principles of greed, hatred and lies.

At the campaign, he also emphasised his personal story, as the working class son of a Jewish immigrant who grew up in poor housing.

"I did not have a father who gave me millions of dollars to build luxury skyscrapers, casinos and country clubs," Sanders said in a veiled attack on Trump.
