In an exclusive interview with NDTV, former United States President Donald Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also hinted at running in the 2024 US presidential elections.

"Everyone wants me to run, I am leading in the polls, in the Republican polls and the Democrat polls," Trump told NDTV.

Speaking about PM Modi, he said, "It is not an easy job he (PM Modi) has got."

"I've had a great relationship with India and with Prime Minister Modi. We've been friends. And I think he's a great guy and doing a terrific job. It's not an easy job he's got. But we've known each other a long time. Good man," Trump told the news channel in the recorded interview.

Highlights of Trump's Interview

  • Giving hints that he may run for the 2024 elections, Trump said that he will take a "decision in that regard in the very near future." The former President also said that his decision would make a lot a people happy.

  • "I would think I beat him (Joe Biden) easily. I think I beat him last time. I got many millions of more votes last time than I did the first time," he said.

  • Talking about the Federal Bureau of Investigation's raid on his estate in Mar-a-Lago, the former President described the raid as "one of the most shocking abuses of power by any administration in American history" and repeated his claims that there is a witch-hunt against him.

  • Speaking about the country's economy under President Joe Biden, Trump said, "The economy is horrible, and we have lost our voice, and our respect worldwide."

  • Trump added, "I feel strongly about a lot of things. You know what I feel strongly about? Our country, and our country is going to hell. That's what I feel strongly about."

  • He also stated that the situation between Ukraine and Russia would never have arisen had he been the president. "President Putin would have never gotten in if I was President. Never. Not even a chance," Trump said.

  • He also called out the way the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan took place and said, "The first thing that you would have done is you would have brought the people out, the Americans out, you would have certainly brought our equipment out. We left $85 billion worth of equipment behind. This would have never ever happened."

  • Answering if he would consider his daughter as his 2024 running mate, Trump said, "My daughter? Never thought of that one. I've never even heard but that's an interesting idea. I wouldn't (consider it)."
