A video has been circulating on social media with the claim that lions were spotted on Ghodbunder road in Mumbai’s Thane on Wednesday, 11 September at 1:56 am. The claim along with the video reads: “Lions Spotted in Ghodbunder road thane 11/09/19. 1.56 am live video”.
Several social media users shared the video on Facebook and YouTube with a similar claim.
The Quint also received a query on the claim made about the video on its WhatsApp Helpline.
WHAT’S THE TRUTH?
We searched on YouTube using keywords ‘lions on road rain’ and found a video uploaded on Thursday, 12 September, with the caption ‘A pride of Lions at Taleti of Girnar Junagadh’.
Consequently, we searched on YouTube using keywords ‘lions on road junagadh’ and found a video uploaded by TV9 Gujarati on Wednesday, with the caption ‘Group of lions seen roaming in Junagadh.’ In the bulletin, same video showing lions roaming on the road can be seen which was reportedly shot at Junagadh in Gujarat.
Further, on Thursday, the official Twitter handle of Gujarat forest department had shared a snapshot of the video and stated that a pride of lions was spotted in Junagadh’s residential area. The pride reportedly comprised seven lions. The video was shot by resident of Bharti Ashram in Bhavnath area, it added.
The tweet also mentioned that residents had reported that such incidents have become a regular sight.
