TRUE OR FALSE?

While the incident is real, The Quint could verify that the video is being shared with a misleading claim.

The video is of a robbery executed by four children in Pakistan’s Karachi and not Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area. We could also confirm that the incident took place on 26 August this year.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

To find out the truth behind the video, we broke it into several key frames using InVid Google Chrome extension and conducted a reverse image search using Yandex. We were then directed to the original video, which was uploaded on YouTube by Dawn News, a Pakistan-based news channel.

The video suggests that the four children robbed the couple in broad daylight in Karachi. The CCTV footage is from Hill Park area where one of them can be seen sitting on a motorcycle while the other three robbed two people.

Two boys – aged 15 and 17 – were later arrested by Pakistan police, reported Geo News.
