CLAIM

Amid the increasing number of child-lifting rumours, a video is viral on YouTube with the claim that a woman who had allegedly kidnapped children was caught in Manda village in Rajasthan’s Pali district. The video shows a group of people gathered around the woman, and taking her to a different location to talk to her.

Viewed over 1,90,000 times, the caption of the video reads: “मांडा में छोटे बच्चों को किडनेप करनै वाली रंगे हाथ पकड़ी गई (Translated: The woman who kidnapped children was caught in Manda)."

Several social media users shared the video on Twitter with the same claim.

WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

Chandan Singh, Circle Officer and DSP, Sojat City in Pali district told The Quint that the incident did take place in Manda but is not related to child-lifting in any way.

“This is a two-three month old incident. The woman in the video was drunk. The villagers gathered around her. After talking to her, they let her go.”

He further said that even the villagers had not suspected her of being a child-lifter.
