What does one do when encountered with a news report or article that seems dubious? Check its veracity, of course. But, that’s not all. One also needs to check the source of the article, to find out whether the intention behind it is a malafide one or plain and simple fun.

The Quint came across an article, which was put up by a satire website, but is getting shared on social media with people taking it in all seriousness.

CLAIM

A post by Facebook page ModiNama has claimed that the recently released film Uri has been made tax-free in Pakistan. The post further says that Pakistani army has been asked to watch the movie on the first day.

TRUE OR FALSE

Well, false of course since the source quoted in the post is a website that deals in satirical pieces.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

Modinama’s post, which had been shared 174 times on Facebook till this article was written, carries a screenshot with the logo of a website fauxy.com. The Quint was able to locate the article on the website.

In its ‘About Us’ section, the website clearly states that it is a ‘satire web portal’ and that their content is a ‘work of fiction’.
