CLAIM

A tweet, purportedly by Shehla Rashid, JNU student activist and now a political leader with Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement, states that should Congress President not become the prime minister, she'll kill herself.

The screenshot of a tweet claiming so was put up by one Muralikrishna on Twitter on 18 May. Incidentally, the tweet also has a reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The tweet has been morphed, and has been called out by Rashid herself.

"What else can the criminal minded right-wing do, but Photoshop, lie, morph, forge!", she tweeted.

Another telltale sign was the presence of the words "Honest Liberal Tweets" next to the timestamp, in place of the usual "Twitter Web App" -- indicating that this was a photoshop job, presumably by an account with the same name.

A quick search on the internet for "Honest Liberal Tweets" led us to its Facebook page, where the same creation had been uploaded on 18 May.

PAST RUN-INS WITH FAKE NEWS

Rashid is no stranger to being a target of fake news, and has faced several pieces of misinformation being attributed to her in the past as well.

One of the biggest fake news stories targeting her claimed that she had pocketed the money crowdfunded for the family of the Kathua rape victim.

However, this was debunked by Alt News as false after they spoke to Crowdnewsing, the organisation which was in charge of raising funds for the victim's family, as well as several other parties involved.
