CLAIM
A quote claimed to be from actor Raveena Tandon saying the Hindu community is becoming a ‘minority’ has been circulating on social media.
The post was shared by multiple individuals on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
The quote is said to be in reply to the former COO of Viacom18, Raj Nayak, who on 2 April had tweeted “The Mughal Emperors ruled the Indian Sub Continent for 300 years, we did not become a Muslim Nation. The Britishers ruled India for 200 years, we did not become a Christian Nation. So why are people going around scaring people that our religion is under threat? From whom?”
The quote, with Raveena’s picture and name, says “Hindus have lost Pakistan and Bangladesh. Hindus are extinct in Kashmir & becoming minority in Kerala, Assam, etc. Still bigots like Raj Nayak are spreading a myth that Mughal invaders failed to harm Hindus in 1000 years and India will never become an Islamic country.”
FACT
The post being shared in Raveena's name is fake and the actor never made the comment.
When asked about the quote, she told The Quint that the comments circulated in her name are untrue.
With her denial of any such comment, it is clear that she did not reply to Raj Nayak’s post.
Further, a perusal of her “replies and tweets” section on Twitter also show that she has not responded to Nayak’s tweet, as claimed in the viral post.
