CLAIM

A video is being circulated on social media with the claim that students of Anjuman School in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur raised ‘Pakistan zindabad’ slogans. The claim along with the video reads: ‘वीडियो मंदसौर के अंजुमन स्कूल का बताया जा रहा है छोटे छोटे प्यारे बच्चे ने स्कूल से निकलते ही पाकिस्तान जिंदाबाद के नारे लगाए’’

(Translated: This video is claimed to be from Mandsaur’s Anjuman School, small children outside the school started raising Pakistan zindabad slogans.)

Several social media users shared the video with the same claim on Twitter and on Facebook. The video shared by ‘भवानी चौहान’ on Facebook had over 2600 views at the time of writing this piece.

DID STUDENTS REALLY RAISE PRO PAK SLOGANS?

Narendra Solanki, Circle SP (CSP) Mandsaur told The Quint that the incident is from Mandsaur’s Khanpura area, where a madrasa called Anwarul Uloom Higher Secondary school operates. The madrasa has a Hindi- and an English-medium school governed by Anjuman-e-Islam committee.

As per Solanki, a dispute had erupted between the principal of the Hindi-medium school, Sabir Panwala, and a suspended secretary of the Anjuman committee.

The secretary had alleged that Panwala was not letting students use the scholarships and grants given to them, and was keeping the same for himself instead.

However, Panwala told The Quint that he is being wrongly charged. He claimed that scholarships and grants are directly transferred to the students’ account.

When the police reached the spot, students of the madrasa thought that Panwala was being taken away. Hence, they started chanting ‘Sabir Sir Zindabad,’ ‘Sabir Sahab Zindabad.’

“The video is being falsely shared on social media claiming that the students were raising ‘Pakistan zindabad’ slogans. We investigated the video using lip syncing and playing the video in slow motion mode and found that the students were actually raising ‘Sabir Sahab zindabad’ slogans.”

Further, while speaking to The Quint, Panwala said that students were not raising pro- Pakistan slogans.

He further added that the police had asked him to come along to settle the dispute but the students thought he was being arrested. Hence, they started chanting slogans for him.

Further, the current President of the Anjuman-e-Islam committee Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh told The Quint that the matter has been informed of to the collector and is being investigated. He further said that Sabir Panwala is the principal right now.

The principal of the English-medium school Saurabh Dubey, too reiterated what the police said, “If you carefully listen to the video, you can hear that students are chanting ‘Sabir Sahab zindabad, Sabir Sir zindabad’ and not ‘Pakistan zindabad’.”

Upon carefully listening to the video in question, we could hear students raising pro- Sabir Panwala slogans.
