CLAIM
A video is doing the rounds on various social media platforms with the claim that Indian and Pakistani army troops were dancing together on Bollywood songs to celebrate the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor.
The video which is being shared widely on Facebook and Twitter shows soldiers from the two countries dancing to Hindi songs.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The Quint was able to confirm that although the video is true, it is old and being shared with a misleading claim. The video is from 2018, in Russia, where Indian and Pakistani soldiers danced together after a mega anti-terror drill organised on the sidelines of the Beijing-based Shanghai Cooperation Organisation or the SCO summit.
WHAT WE FOUND
On conducting a simple Google keyword search using terms like ‘Indian and Pakistani soldiers dancing together’, we were directed to a number of news reports related to the event which took place in August 2018.
“A video of Indian and Pakistani soldiers dancing together to Bollywood songs in Russia has gone viral on social media. The camaraderie was captured on the sidelines of the recently-concluded mega anti-terror drill of the Beijing-based SCO at Chebarkul town in Russia,” reported NDTV.
An August 2018 report by Scroll.in said that the SCO became a meeting ground for soldiers from India and Pakistan who came together to enjoy an evening filled with Bollywood songs and dancing.
ABP News also covered the August 2018 event and a report of the same was uploaded on their YouTube channel. The video showed the celebrations as well as the troops of India and Pakistan dancing to the songs.
Therefore, an old video from 2018, which was taken at a celebration where Indian and Pakistani troops engaged in dancing and general camaraderie is being shared now with a misleading claim.
Moreover, the Kartarpur Corridor has not been opened yet. After much deliberations and diplomatic roadblocks between the governments of India and Pakistan, the Kartarpur Corridor, which will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India's Punjab with the gurdwara at Kartarpur, is set to be opened in a grand ceremony on 9 November.
