CLAIM

A video is being widely shared on social media with the claim that former US President Barack Obama is working at a hotel after leaving the White House.

The claim in Hindi reads, “ये ह पुर्व अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति *बराक ओबामा* आज होटल में काम कर रहे है | इनसे सीख लेने की जरूरत ह भारत में तो छोटा सा विधायक, या मंत्री भी बंगला नही खाली करता | (The former President of United States Barack Obama is working at a hotel. Indian leaders, who refuse the vacate their government accommodations, should learn from him)

The same video has been shared by multiple users on Facebook.

TRUE OR FALSE?

While the video hasn’t been tampered with, the claim shared with it is completely misleading. The video, in reality, dates back to November 2016 and shows President Obama and first lady Michelle serving thanksgiving meals to residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington.

WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

We did a Google reverse image search and found an article published by Associated Press with the headline: ‘Obama and Family Serve Thanksgiving Meal to Vets’.

We also found the same video, which showed the Obamas serving meal to veterans.

Clearly, an old video has been taken out of context to claim that former President Obama is working at a hotel.
