Relax! Rahul Gandhi Was Reading An English Paper – With Kannada Ad

Rahul Gandhi was reading or rather pretending to read a Kannada newspaper Karnataka BJP mocked him on Twitter.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was in Bengaluru last week for the relaunch of National Herald - the newspaper founded and edited by India’s first prime minister and his grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru.

Karnataka BJP General Secretary CT Ravi, took to Twitter to share a ANI photo of Rahul Gandhi reading a newspaper during the launch.

Assuming that Gandhi was reading or rather pretending to read a Kannada newspaper, Ravi tried to mock Gandhi for “reading his exemplary achievements published in Kannada”.

Rahul Mocked For Reading ‘Kannada’

With the photo of Rahul being shared widely, people took to Twitter to mock him and went to the extent of calling him ‘stupid’ and a ‘cartoon’, pointed out SMHoaxSlayer.

Drawing references from Gandhi’s earlier statement about him having to read Upanishads to counter BJP, people on Twitter made fun of how he was trying to read the ancient text in the Kannada version of National Herald.

Not a Kannada Newspaper

However, as SMHoaxSlayer reported, Gandhi was just flipping through the pages of National Herald published in English. The newspaper had simply carried a front page advertisement in Kannada and a Kannada edition of the newspaper does not even exist!

With just the advertisement printed in Kannada, the Karnataka general secretary of BJP assumed that Gandhi was reading a Kannada newspaper.

Launched in 1938, the newspaper was widely used during the Indian freedom struggle and more than eight decades later, the financial handling of the newspaper landed Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul in a legal mess.
