The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, completed six months on Tuesday. Outlining his government’s achievements, Adityanath on Monday released a white paper, which laid accusations on the previous Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government.

There was a series of ‘karname’ (misdeeds) by governments in the state during the past 12 to 15 years but we have focused on some main points and presented them in a concise form...It is important as we are answerable to the people and committed to them.

Adityanath said that the white paper elaborated on the malpractices of the governments from 2003-2017, and that this government would release a list of its achievements by Wednesday.

According to the white paper, the Samajwadi Party government was not effective in curbing corruption. It further accused the previous government of incurring a collective loss of over Rs 91,000 crore under the PSU-scheme in the year 2015-2016.

Pinning the loss on corrupt and irresponsible governments, the white paper further stated that only 3 percent expenditure was allotted to infrastructure and development-related works.

He further said that debt had risen two and a half times in the past ten years.

Because of the “faulty policies” of the previous governments there was an imbalance in the financial condition of the state, the chief minister claimed, adding that by the time the present government took over, "the coffers were empty and debts very high".

Adityanath also indicated that his government could go into the issue of alleged irregularities in the construction of memorials during the Mayawati regime.

Adityanath said that CAG and Lokayukta reports in this regard will be placed before the Legislative Assembly.

The remarks of the CAG show that there had been massive irregularities in the construction of memorials, the white paper released by the Chief Minister states.

Opposition Hits Back

Hours after Yogi Adityanath released the document, the Samajwadi Party trashed it as an effort to hide failures and shirk responsibility.

The BJP government has tried to shirk responsibility by issuing the white paper. It’s an attempt to hide failures by highlighting the shortcomings of previous regimes. In fact, the BJP has not shown any interest in starting new schemes.
