Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi began the second phase of his three-day Yuva Rojgar Khedut Adhikaar Navsarjan Yatra from Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Monday. There are four-phases of this Gujarat tour, where Rahul will cover all regions of the state prior to the assembly elections scheduled later this year.
Gandhi landed at Ahmedabad and travelled to the Hatijan area of the city from where he started his tour in a specially designed bus.
The Congress vice president also hit out at the NDA government over the state of economy, and demanded that the rates under the Goods and Services Tax not exceed 18 per cent.
"In spite of our request to the Centre, they are charging rates of over 18 per cent under the GST....They should revert to the 18 per cent tax slab," Gandhi said, adding high taxes have ruined many businesses.
Rahul said demonetisation has resulted in the loss of business of many small traders. He added that the famed Gujarat model of development had failed.
Gandhi also attacked the government over its failure to create jobs.
He said India is competing with China these days. China creates 50,000 jobs every day, but India under the Modi government manages to create only 450 jobs per day.
Following reports of BJP national chief Amit Shah’s son allegedly earning major profits for his firm, Rahul Gandhi took a dig at PM Modi saying his initiatives ‘Startup India’ and ‘Make in India’ have only benefited “one individual”.
Rahul Gandhi also visited the birthplace of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Kheda district.
